Our History

Constructed in 1893, the Powers-Dodd House featured a medical office and was originally built for Dr. John B. Powers and his wife, Harriet Brewer, the granddaughter of first Wake Forest College president, Samuel Wait. In 1897, the neighboring Powers Store opened as a drug and general store, later becoming the Law fraternity for wake forest college, a local book store and “The Corner Ice Cream Parlor” for three decades.

After the ice cream parlor closed its doors, “The Corner and Meeting House” underwent a major restoration project that spanned several years. Today, both locations serve as historically elegant event space, ready to host you and your guest!

The Corner Crew

Here at the corner we work to ensure your event runs smoothly, and that our guests and vendors have a space they can transform into their desired vision. Whether you are hosting a birthday celebration, rehearsal dinner, wedding, showers, or corporate event, our team is here to help.

Our goal is to work seamlessly with your vendors to allow creative freedom for your event. We also have vendor recommendations for some of our vendor partners to alleviate event planning stress if needed. The corner crew is here to help with anything we can to help you fully enjoy your special day and event.
